The John Moores competitions and exhibitions are well known as a showcase for some of the best new paintings in the UK. The aim is to attract a broad range of artists without prejudice. After an initial slide selection by the jury (Matthew Collings, Fiona Rae and Jenny Saville), selected artists will be required to submit actual works for final selection. Four prizes of £2,500 and a first prize of £25,000 do nothing to harm the competition's popularity with artists. The exhibition itself will run from 14 Sep - 8 Dec.
